Spring Soon?

There's so much snow on the ground, and all I want is warmer weather so I can wear dresses without freezing and non-sensible shoes that I can't wear with all of the ice on the ground. Last summer I lived in this American Apparel romper, and now I'm on the hunt for fancier ones like this one from Modcloth...

It's sold out on the site, but I'm sure I can find a vintage one with a similar style. I want to be able to wear high-waisted shorts and sheer tights without freezing, too!

Meet me in Tokyo

Japanese street style has always been a huge inspiration for me, even if I can't fully pull off the Gothic Lolita looks which I've always admired. Well now there's a new Tokyo style tribe called Dolly Style. I love it! Girls in Tokyo dress up as antique dolls using old/vintage clothing and accessories which look extra cute. The clothes may have some wear to them, but they appreciate the antiquity. It's a fairly new trend in Tokyo, and I'm excited to see more of it in the near future... and you know how those girls in Tokyo are ~ always a few steps ahead of the fashion trends.

New York, je t'aime

I'm always amazed at how many thrift stores there are in this city. Aside from the Salvation Armys and the Goodwills, New York has tons of other vintage shops, some just far too pricey to ever step foot in... I love it. I love being constantly taken in and inspired by each store, only to wonder what else I could find in the other ones.

Yesterday was spent walking around St. Mark's Place, which is one long street of little vintage treasure chests. I found a lovely skirt and a 1960's romper at Search and Destroy, which is probably my favorite thrift store.

This skirt has the most incredible shape! I just think it's perfect for spring/summer.

I also gave in and bought a super rare Velvet Underground shirt with Nico on it at Trash and Vaudeville, which I just had to..

I love how simple yet elegant her style was.

The Goodwill by FIT is also a favorite of mine, with good reason. All the fashion kids just drop off their creatively altered or out of season clothes when they get bored with them. I found a creatively altered vintage blazer with a sewn on button design, which I just think is so interesting!

I probably won't wear this a lot, but I just love the detail that went into the button design. It's definitely one of the more fun and creative handmade pieces I've come across.

Alexa Chung for Madewell

Photos from

I am in love with this collection, but I wouldn't expect anything less from Alexa Chung. Everything in it is amazing! I'm particularly loving the dresses and the shorts with long cardigans. I need to start wearing socks with fancy heels which I've been seeing a lot of lately, just brilliant.

The room is on fire as she's fixing her hair

Dress: Lark and Wolff, UO
Tights: Forever 21
Shoes: Vintage
Dior lipstick

I found this Lark and Wolff dress on sale at Urban, and I love it! It reminds me of Madeline, the orphan cartoon. I'm obsessed with the color red lately. I usually manage to incorporate it into my wardrobe, whether it's red lipstick or the inside lining of a purse.

Photos by Cristina Sigmond

Well, here is the first official post for my blog! I guess I'll get started by saying that I'm Nicole (or Nico, whichever), and this is where I'll be posting updates from my etsy store, Vanilla Dust Vintage. I'll also create posts about fashion, art and anything I'm feeling inspired by.

Ever since I've moved to New York City, I've been extremely interested in fashion, especially vintage since thrift stores are everywhere. Walking around here is like stepping inside one big fashion magazine every day; it's amazing! No matter where you go, everyone is strutting their own unique style on the streets, and I love it.
