All I Want for Christmas

"I can't explain myself, I'm afraid, Sir, because I'm not myself you see."

Burberry Creeper knock-offs from Jeffrey Campbell, I need you.

Been a while.. so much has happened... working on uploading vintage items to my etsy, but my job in the fashion industry has consumed my life. Not complaining at all. hopefully getting on that soon.

The holiday season is here! My favorite time. Check out my amazon wish list for inspiration. Half practical / half complete and utter nonsensical wish list items.. haha. I'm constantly adding new things.

Comic Con

This past weekend I attended Comic Con at the Javits center. In normal circumstances, I'd be scared off by these types of events, but my friend's boyfriend was selling his toys at a booth so I decided to help out and see what all the craze was for. It was a good excuse to act like a cartoon for a few hours, although I'm seriously contemplating dying my hair all blue (or pink? we'll see. . . ). It weirdly wasn't as dorky/scary as I thought, and Hello Kitty was everywhere. Comic books, pop art and Japanese pop culture was in excess, which ended up making the whole trip well worth it.

Inspiration: Kurt Cobain

Getting inspired by menswear, when I never really thought twice about what mens' fashion is really about. I usually prefer if a guy is nonchalant and not obsessed with fashion, but still looks fashionable and chic. Not sure if that can exist, but it sure does seem like guys who are best dressed just sort of flop out of bed and get dressed with an uncaring attitude, but still look amazing and unorganized-ish-ly put together. Men always look so comfortable too, right? which is definitely one of my fashion goals for fall...

anyway... Kurt Cobain best describes what I mean. He will always be a huge source of inspiration.

I saw Drive last night and I am so obsessed with it. It's perfect. It's neo-noir, dream-like and almost meditative with slight bouts of violence thrown in to keep you in check.. my ultimate film. and watching Ryan Gosling for 100 minutes on screen was amazing for obvious reasons...haha.

The sort of fairytale theme song played throughout the movie was probably the best part of the film. If you're into minimal modern '80s synth sounds, this is the best:

Just when I was starting to get kind of sick of seeing Litas everywhere, these come along. I might as well give Jeffrey Campbell my wallet at this point..

Betsey Johnson

Betsey Johnson was one of the first designers I became obsessed with a while ago when I first started getting into fashion. I must say I've outgrown her style, but some pieces are just so cute and romantic and feminine, that I can't help but divert back to her every once in a while for inspiration. and I always make it a point to browse her store if not for a minute or so whenever I go to the mall... out of habit, if anything. I was really impressed with her Spring 2012 collection, though!  I especially love how some of the pieces are simple with just a slight bit of edge, aside from her usual extremes. Probably because it was inspired by lingerie, since so many of the pieces are sheer and white and extra romantic. love.

It's officially fashion week here in New York, which means I'm obsessively refreshing style.com to see the latest of the latest collections that have been displayed... so far I'm loving these pieces from Vena Cava, gaga glasses and all.. too good. It's also the most vintagey collection I've seen so far, aside from maybe Steven Allen which is probably why I was drawn to it in the first place.

It always comes down to the shoes for me, though...  typical.

Overcast obscurity

Just getting prepared for the unknown of the hurricane that's about to hit nyc. I'm slightly anxious, but at the same time I'm just hoping it passes over quickly and isn't a disastrous event. Cupcake pumpkin candles, blankets, flashlights and applesauce is what I'm hoping I can survive off of.. and exploring strange rabbit holes in my apartment building to pass the time.

also rain boots. Got these just in time for the chaos. Love them, and I'm hoping they can replace my Steve Madden rain boots that had an amazing six year run. I'm weirdly obsessed with rain gear.. not really sure where it came from.

Burberry creepers. Where there's a will, there's always a way I guess.. though I'd shamelessly settle for a Jeffrey Campbell replication, or something. I love the witchy style, and the heel just makes them equal parts edgy/girly which never seems to oversaturate my wardrobe.

Meet me in Montauk

blouse: F21, denim cutoffs: thrifted

Took a little day trip out to Montauk a couple of weeks ago. I love it there. It's always so serene and peaceful and my favorite place to go when I want to clear my mind. Getting in my car and just driving for miles is extremely liberating.

Mexican Coke

Blouse: Vintage
Skirt and jewelry: F21
Shoes: Dolce Vita
Hat: American Apparel

This blouse was on super sale at Salvation Army. I'm talking one dollar and fifty cents on sale. yep. Thrift store sales are just ridiculous, I love it. It feels like a thousand degrees here today, and I couldn't think of a quicker way to cool down than drinking some Mexican Coke. I'm pretty sure this stuff used to be illegal here, but lucky for my area, a handful of little bodegas near my apartment smuggle it over from Mexico. I swore off coca-cola a few years ago, but I'm pretty sure I'm shamefully re-addicted...

Looking glass

These shoes Andreia Chaves created are amazing. Throwing all logic out the door of course, I would totally rock these. and tumble over everything, since I'd just stare down at my feet all the time in awe of what magically obscured images would pop up next.. haha. obsessed.

Park life

Dress: Vintage
Shoes: UO

Hanging out in McCarren park with Michelle in my baby doll dress from the 90s and red flats. It was hot as @^($# on this day, since Spring decided to only last about 5 days this year. The temperatures went from bitter cold to a scorching 90 degrees.. crazy extremities... no grey area! I'm loving it though.. just another excuse to wear light, flowy dresses and hang out in parks. and an even better excuse to eat ice cream hah!!

My summer essentials so far: floppy hat and giant sunglasses that take up half your face.. the floppier the hat/bigger the shades the better. Classic staples, so you really can't go wrong!

The start of something

cherry blossoms, boredom, sf giants game at citifield, museum of moving image

Random photos that have no purpose taken with my iphone.. sort of a start of the summer photo diary. Hipstamatic will forever confuse me, but it's a fun app nonetheless !

Blackbird Attic

This past weekend I went upstate for my friend Michelle's one year anniversary party for her consignment/vintage shop, Blackbird Attic. These pics were from a mock photo booth setup in the store, and it was a lot of fun! I picked up this red Betsey Johnson dress while I was there, and haven't taken it off since. I also bought an amazing vintage ruby pink pleated dress from the 1970s that I loveee. She has the perfect mix of vintage and designer that I'm always on the hunt for when thrifting!
